George Manton, Viscount Rathmoor, had disinherited his brother, Dominick Manton, twelve years ago, but George is dead now. George died without issue, so it is presumed that Dom will be the next Viscount Rathmoor. Twelve years ago, Dom lost everything, his birthright, his home, and most painful of all, his fiance, the love of his life, Jane Vernon, a wealthy daughter of a Baron.Dom tricked Jane into jilting him, because he could not bear to see Jane live in poverty and lose her birthright, too. Dom used Jane's cousin, Nancy, to make sure Jane broke off their engagement. Dom's brother, George, mistakenly thought Dom was in love with Nancy, so George vindictively made Nancy his wife.
Dom had made a success of his life despite all the obstacles George had hurled at him. Dom was a successful investigator with his own business. And now his ex-fiance, Jane, is telling him that Nancy is missing and she fears that she is in trouble. Jane wants Dom's help to find Nancy. Dom thinks Nancy is just enjoying her widowhood, but then Dom finds out that there are rumors Nancy may be pregnant. If this child belongs to George, Dom may have his title and home snatched from him, again. And having Jane in his life, again, is making him realize what a mistake he had made twelve years ago in not trusting in Jane's love.
Sabrina Jefferies has spun another unique tale filled with mystery, intrigue, romance and love. Jefferies' characters always know they are in love. It is so refreshing from most other romances where the characters deny it to themselves for most of the book. Jefferies' characters knowing they love each other makes for more romantic exchanges, more interesting repartee, steamier love scenes that are about real love, not just lust, although, there is plenty of lust. Lol Jefferies delivers mature, loving, honorable people in interesting dilemmas. The author takes us on a journey that the reader will not soon forget.
I was so sorry to say good bye to this series, but the excerpt at the end of this book teases that we will see these characters, again. Yea!!!

If the Viscount Falls The Duke Men Sabrina Jeffries 9781476786049 Books Reviews
Book 4 is the perfect ending to a perfect series....."The Duke's Men". I love Ms. Jeffries' stories as I have repeatedly confessed to in my reviews of her books.....for some very basic reasons. Her stories are humorous, entertaining with lots of lust, love, conflicts, jealousy, and just normal human behaviour and believable characters. Ms. Jeffries witty reparteé between her characters is always funny, sometimes subtlety and sometimes not so subtle! But when the two main characters finally connect, the sparks fly and the pages of the book turn so hot you can fell it in your fingers....well, almost.
The last holdout, Dom, is so set in his ways, opinions, and convictions that he's having a really hard time seeing the forest for the trees. When Jane comes roaring back into his life, finally, she bowls him over and rips open everything that is Dom....the stubbornness these two posses is unbelievable! They butt heads so much I never thought they'd get it worked out....but this is a Jeffries book, so you know the inevitable is bound to happen . The question is always how and when. Jane is also under false impressions of the past and her world is turned upside down as well, before everything rights itself.
The bad guys are not what you would expect for Ms. Jeffries, but it did give it a more definitive bad guy flavour to the storyline. All comes out well in the end, but the ride getting there was fast, furious, captivating and so enjoyable that I would recommend reading her books to everyone. Happy reading! Cheers! 🍻
This is the fourth book in The Duke's Men series. I wish to reiterate that if you haven't read Ms Jeffries series "The Hellions of Halstead Hall", now would be a good time to do so. The two books are the lid to the pot, so to speak. If one character is mentioned or eluded to in one series, they are a major focus in the other. In this case on page 6 in the prologue, we find the connection between the hero, Dominick Manton, and my favorite Halstead spouse, Jackson Pinter. This book also brings the Duke back into a prominent role. For those who may not know the title named Duke is the Duke of Lyons, he is mentioned briefly in the Hellion series as the host of an event that sets up the obstacle for Gabriel Sharp, a close friend of the Duke's. A third mention within the story is Viscount Ravenswood, the head of Britain's home office under whom Jackson Pinter and Dominick Manton operate. The Viscount Ravenswood is a primary character in yet another of Ms. Jeffries's book series The Swanlea Spinsters and his story is told in book 4.
In this chapter, Dominick is set to ascend to the title of Viscount upon the death of his older brother but is required to wait a requisite number of months to ascertain whether the widow; his sister in law Nancy, might be carrying his brother George's heir. Nancy is a close relation to Dominick's true love Jane; who was the target of a forced jilt when Dominick was disowned by his brother. As the story starts Jane finds herself seeking the assistance of Dominick because Nancy seems to have disappeared. Manton, knowing Nancy's history suspects her complicity in her own disappearance and Jane disputes that. The basis of the plot line is that the two are thrown together, often at odds in their quest to determine exactly what had happened, by whom and where Nancy actually was. The Duke and Dom's half sister provide the level-headedness and the chaperoning for the couple with the occassion appearance of Tristam, the Duchess's brother, and Victor, the Duke's half brother, bringing the entire cast together again in this book. As with most of Ms Jeffries' books the ending is quite predictable but the fun and enjoyment is always in the journey to get there.
